Dave Cox
Wonderfully wacky whimsy for all!
He’ll fool the pants off of you. Then, he’ll politely give them back, unlike some of those trouser stealing magic weasels I’m sure you’ve heard so much about.
His improvisational comedy keeps his show fresh and in the moment, directly reacting to his audience, making the magic that much more amazing.
-John Ghram, Austin, TX

Dave’s quick wit, spellbinding magic, and sidesplitting comedy gets your entire audience involved in a smart, high energy, faced paced show!

Dave has been performing his Mischievous Magical Mayhem professionally for 20 plus years, starting as a wee lad in a teeny tiny top hat, and going on to win multiple awards, direct other magicians’ shows, and perform all over this great country and abroad. When he was only 10 years old, he took out an ad in the local paper: “Dave Cox: Boy Magician.” He still occasionally gets a call.
Eventually, Dave’s talents and ambitions brought him to Hollywood, and he became a proud member of the world famous Magic Castle, where he has created multiple custom shows, and lectured to his fellow magicians. In addition to doing a slew of commercials, films, and extensive voice over work, Dave is a professional writer and a skilled improviser, having performed with the Groundlings, Improv Olympic, ComedySportz, bang!, The Second City, Fake Radio, Opening Night: The Improvised Musical, The Spontaneous Shakespeare Company, The Liquid Radio Players, and The ACME Comedy Theater. He not only writes for magicians, clowns, and comedians: he was a Chesterfield Fellow, earned a place in the Paramount Comedy Writer’s Program, wrote comedy sketches for both ABC and HBO, was a featured author in the award winning book “Magic’s Greatest Stories,” was a comedy consultant for MTV and VH-1, and began as an apprentice writer on Frasier. This training and experience is part of what infuses his show with his unique brand of spontaneous charm and wit.
There’s a whole world of competitive magic, and Dave won the prestigious magician’s award, “Best in the Midwest” at the Midwest Magic Jubilee when he was only 16. He’s pretty much been riding that ever since. He was the first recipient of the Bass Ale Red Triangle Comedy Award, was honored to be a nominee for “Best Parlour Magician” at the world famous Magic Castle, and was awarded “Best Improv Performer” and “Best Character” at ACME Comedy Theater more times than he thinks is fair. In 2013, the Academy for the Advancement of Children’s Magical Entertainment awarded Dave the very large and shiny trophy for “Best Children’s Performer” for his work with kids around the country. Bicycle Playing Cards chose him as the official magician for their quasquicentennial celebration. When the International Brotherhood of Magicians needed a host for their prestigious Gold Medal contest, they asked Dave. He was nominated for a Drama Desk Award for his work on Broadway with the world’s greatest clown, Bello Nock at the New Vic, a theater once played by some guy named Houdini. Dave also has an Emmy. But he doesn’t think he deserved it.
Wait. Are you still reading this? Good for you! Here’s some more…
Dave performs all over. He was the resident magician at Sea World, San Diego, where well cared for sea mammals politely refused to pick a card. Continuing his aquatic adventures, Dave set sail and traveled the world for Crystal, Norwegian, and Princess Cruise Lines, performing for over 70,000 people a year off the coasts of Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, Jamaica, Italy, France, Bali, China, and Greece. He is also a highly sought after performer at corporate and celebrity events, amazing and delighting companies like IBM, Apple, AT&T, RJR Nabisco, and performing at private events for celebrities as varied as Pink, Dick VanPatten, Lucy Liu, and Tom Cruise.
On television, Dave has done major commercials and campaigns for companies such as Red Robin, Panasonic, Arby’s, Kitchenaid and many others. He hosted the popular show “Arena” on the G-4 Network, and, for three ridiculous seasons, he was the host of MTV’s hit show “Is She Really Going Out With Him.” Dave was a creator and head writer on the hit kid’s TV show “Massive Monster Mayhem.” A handy guy, Dave was the card handling hands for Full Tilt Poker, and also the hands of Dana Carvey in the award winning Lays chips commercial. Utilizing his experience in comedy, magic, and TV, Dave served as a consultant on VH-1’s hit series “Celebracadabara” and he brought three of his original magical performances to the world wide hit show, “Masters of Illusion.” Most recently, he appeared as a mentalist on “Disney’s Do It Duo.”
He’s come a long way for a farm boy from Illinois. Dave loves to bring magic into people lives. It’s about the jaw dropping, stomach clenching, amazing excitement that you get when the impossible happens, right there, right in front of you. That’s what it’s about. It’s about magic.
